This famous Swiss resort lies in a beautiful setting overlooking Lake Maggiore, an alpine lake shared by Switzerland and Italy. Ascona is in a sheltered, sunny bay, a perfect location for flowers to bloom all year round. The distinct Mediterranean climate in this area also encourages an abundance of palm and citrus trees to flourish and, of course, attracts holidaymakers.
Ascona is a picturesque city with a lively lakeside piazza and is renowned as an important cultural centre. Historically, the old part of the town was built around a 16th century church and you should spend some time strolling through the intricate web of narrow lanes, where you can browse in every kind of shop imaginable.
