Brunnen is the most dramatically placed resort town on the shores of Lake Lucerne. It provides astounding views of the crests of the Rigi and the scarps of the Fronalpstock Mountains across the crystal clear waters of the lake. Brunnen's unique location draws warm air up from the Mediterranean and the air in this picturesque lake-side town is as pure as you can get.
The nearby Urmiberg peak can be reached by a tiny cable-car or a hike to the summit brings the rewards of a pleasant meal at the restaurant at the top. The resorts along the lake edge (including Brunnen) are in a flat area, so they pose no problems for visitors with walking difficulties and parts of Brunnen are also traffic free. The town has a variety of restaurants and café-bars as well as lake-view hotels decorated with wrought-iron balconies. It is a beautiful place and a photographer's paradise.
Due to its close proximity to Lake Lucerne, many of the popular attractions here are water-based. Sailing and wind-surfing are freely available, as are a multitude of cruises and boat trips on the fascinating steam boats operating around the lake. In the snow-covered surrounding peaks, sport becomes a little more extreme. Paragliding, mountain biking and climbing in the summer combined with skiing and snowboarding in the winter means that there is something here for everyone to enjoy.
With the nearest airport only 60kms away, stunning scenery and clean air guaranteed, whatever time of the year you visit, small shops and plenty of tranquillity, Brunnen is a place you are likely to return to, time and time again.
