The small town of Cabanas on Portugal's Eastern Algarve still retains much of the quiet charm of its fishing village origins. Only 40km east of Faro it has wonderful beaches, as does the whole area, numerous restaurants, cafes, bars and even a supermarket or two.
With good road and rail links to the surrounding area, it is the perfect base for daytrips along the south coast of Portugal and Spain and the ideal setting for a relaxing and carefree holiday.
This typical Algarvian town overlooks the Ria Formosa Lagoon, part of a protected nature reserve and is a two minute boat trip away from a delightful beach where you can walk, swim or paddle on either side of the town. Cabanas is in a region which has a very climate with plenty of sunshine and you don't have to travel far to smell the citrus trees. Here you can experience typical Portuguese life, eat in a range of restaurants from cheap and cheerful to highly exclusive or take a short drive to the casino with its fabulous floor shows.
The resort is very quiet in winter, perfect for a sunshine holiday in peaceful surrounding, but can get a little hectic in the summer months.
