Car Hire in Friedrichshafen
Friedrichshafen
Rebuilt extensively after the Second World War, Friedrichshafen rests on the north-eastern bank of the Bodensee (Lake Constance) and boasts sweeping views of the lake and a distant backdrop of the Swiss Alps. Take a leisurely walk along the Seepromenade, one of the longest waterfronts of any town around the lake, or rent a bicycle from the kiosk within the Stadtbahnhof. The most important building in the town is the Schlosskirche, a collection of 17th century ecclesiastical buildings that were converted in the 19th century into a palace for the kings of Wurttemberg. Now, only the church is open to the public. The Schulmuseum traces the evolution of education from 1850 and houses reconstructions of schoolrooms from the 19th and 20th centuries. The Zeppelin-Museum is a tribute to Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin, who invented and tested the aircraft that bore his name. The museum has a replica of the Hindenburg, including a full-scale reconstruction of its passenger cabins. The Hindenburg exploded in 1937, but today you can take flights in the Zeppelin, a much smaller modern version of the airship. Carrying only 12 passengers, the Zeppelin cruises over the lake for hour-long flights. Not to be missed!
