Portugal's capital city, Lisbon, is bursting with colour from its gardens and parks and is a beautiful city, any time of the year due to its mild climate. Built in a succession of terraces up the slopes of a series of low hills, Lisbon is a city of contrasts. From the differing panoramic views around the city, to the traditional yet modern mix, the peace of the buildings to the noise of the traffic, the city is one of Europe's most invigorating and intriguing capitals.
On the whole, Lisbon has a truly cosmopolitan feel and is in a spectacularly beautiful area of Portugal. It does have some drawbacks, however, and the main one is probably the noise. The horns of congested traffic and the constant clanging of trams may make you wish you had visited a quieter city. There are more peaceful parts. Stunning monuments, a planetarium, tranquil gardens as well as a fabulous array of excellent shops and lots of incredibly vibrant nightlife, all conspire to convince you that you made the right choice.
If that is not enough, the colourful markets, street fish-sellers who still carry their baskets on their heads and the magnificent architecture should finally persuade you.
