Kenya - Travel Guide
Description
Kenya lies almost exactly astride the Equator which passes through the country in an east-west direction. Situated in Eastern Africa bordering the Indian Ocean between Somalia and Tanzania, Kenya is the regional hub for trade and finance in East Africa. It also has such a diverse landscape that it supports varied and abundant wildlife. This is one of its major attractions.
Kenya is the heart of African Safari country and has 59 spectacular parks and reserves set aside so that tourists can see some of the most breathtaking animal sights imaginable. How you see them depends upon what you want to see. Your mode of transport could be anything from a car or a camel, to a mountain bike or a 4x4 jeep. No other country in Africa can match the sheer range of scenery and landscapes that Kenya has to offer, all teeming with birds and wildlife. The animal migration from the Serengeti to the Maasai Mara, which takes place in June and July when the searing temperatures are a little cooler, should not be missed as it truly is a unique sight.
Kenya, although it will be hard to disregard such fabulous wildlife (elephants, big cats, giraffe and rhino) has another side. Mombassa, on the coast, is probably one of the most popular destinations for tourists in the whole country. A holiday city, it is located on an island in a natural sheltered inlet just off Kenya's coast. It has all the delights of any modern, luxurious resort but without the noise and concrete so often associated with purpose-built holiday homes.
Also very much worth a mention, is the capital city of Nairobi. As the proincipal economic and cultural centre of Kenya, it is a thriving hub of activity in the fabulous African landscape some 300 miles from the luxurious coast.
