Luxembourg - Travel Guide

Description
This tiny, landlocked country in Western Europe is the only Grand Duchy in the world. Sandwiched between France and Germany, it could very well be a cultural mix of these two, larger countries, but this is not the case. Although it does sometimes have the cultural influences of France and Germany, particularly when it comes to food, Luxembourg is very proud and protective of its individuality. There is a very good quality of life here and Luxembourg's goods and services are some of the best on offer in Europe. The air is clean and healthy in both regions of the country, which are clearly defined by its geography. The North is resplendent with vast woodlands and great scenic beauty, while the south gives way to mainly rolling farmland and fertile valleys where Luxembourg's Moselle wine is produced. Luxembourg plays an important role as an international financial centre and, as such, has conference and meeting facilities which meet with approval from even the most discerning visitor. It has, for such a small territory, a great diversity of landscapes. The peaceful haven of the parkland in the Petrusse Valley is a draw for holidaymakers, as is the capital, Luxembourg (a little confusing, I know). Parts of the country, although rugged, are paradise for anglers, with many lakes and rivers providing ample opportunity to fish for eels, carp and trout. The standard of accommodation all over Luxembourg is usually high wherever you stay, with a good range, not only of city hotels, but also lower budget campsites, hostels and guest houses. Tourism is an essential contributor to Luxembourg's stable economy, so every effort is made to encourage visitors to return time and time again.

Driving Guide
When driving in the duchy of Luxembourg, you will find an excellent network of roads and motorways. Your vehicle must carry a warning triangle, while a fire extinguisher, first-aid kit and spare bulb set are also highly advised. Drivers must be at least 18, and should carry a driving licence, insurance certificate and vehicle registration document at all times. It is recommended that you keep your passport handy as well. Seat-belts are compulsory front and rear, and children under 12 must travel in the back unless they are at least 1.5 metres tall, or if the front is fitted with an approved child seat. On the motorway, the maximum speed is 120km/h; while on major roads it is 90km/h and in built-up areas it is 50km/h. There are no toll roads in Luxembourg. Luxembourg city has parking meters and machines, and most major cities operate a park-and-ride bus service so you can leave your car in a park outside of the city limits. You may come across some blue zone parking areas; discs for these zones can be obtained from police stations, shops and tourist offices. Wheel clamps are placed on illegally parked vehicles. Note that fuel is generally much cheaper than in the surrounding countries. Do NOT drink and drive.
